One of the County Council divisions within the Meon Valley is Winchester Southern Parishes. This covers the parishes of Boarhunt, Denmead, Whiteley, Wickham and Southwick. The seat was held by the much respected Councillor Freddie Allgood, until his death last November. If is satisfying to be able to report that in the resulting by-election, held on 9th February, Patricia Stallard retained the seat for the Conservative Party taking 54% of the vote and beating four other candidates.
Patricia has held one of the Denmead seats on Winchester City Council for ten years and is a member of the Cabinet there. She writes “I was delighted to be returned as your County Council representative for Winchester Southern Parishes and would like to take this opportunity to renew my pledge to do everything I can to justify your confidence in voting for me.
“Despite the bitterly cold weather, my team and I were pleased to meet with so many of you, either on the doorstep, or in the village. Your feedback was very encouraging, for instance, you appreciated the success of Hampshire County Council in maintaining services, such as the Children’s Centres and improving the roads whilst maintaining a three-year freeze on Council Tax. These things are clearly very important to many residents. I have already started to grapple with other issues which you identified as most urgent. These include affordable housing enquiries, transport issues, highways and pavements.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support which provides a mandate for me to speak up for the people of the Southern Parishes.
