On Sunday evening Soldiers from Southwick Park again marched into the D-Day village of Southwick. Earlier in the day they had marched, led by a Piper, from the Southwick Park camp to St James's Church for the Remembrance Day Service.
The evening event was marked by a wonderful musical performance by Horndean Brass Band, followed by the armistice announcement by the Town Crier [local publican Greg Clark] and the lighting of the official Beacon, one of a thousand being lit by communities throughout the county.
Following this there followed a very impressive Peel for Peace of Church bells by hard-working campanologists. The Church was floodlit for the occasion. During the evening residents were fortified with home made hot soup.
A very moving tribute to those who fell, but Southwick will never forget.
